WITH FULLY STERILE & HEALTH BOARD APPROVED TREATMENT ROOMS, AND PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED and certified STAFF, OUR TATTOOS AND PIERCINGS ARE CLEAN, SAFE AND FLAWLESS.
All our tattoos and piercings take place in clean and hygienic treatment rooms, using fully disposable, single-use items. Our tattoo artists are all trained and certified in blood borne pathogens and cross-contamination and have current first aid certificates. We open our brand new tattoo and piercing needles in front of our clients for your peace of mind.
We do not use an autoclave at all but prefer to implement single use disposable items. Our piercing jewellery, needles, ink, tube areas of the tattoo machine (the part that the artist holds, and the part that comes into contact with your ink), diluting water, and many other items are purchased pre-sterilised at the manufacturing point so we do not need to use this type of equipment as a re-usable or attempt to clean it.....
In this day and age, not only is a fully disposable procedure preferred, but simple to implement, and autoclaving is not always a reliable hygiene alternative...
McGuire, in "Effectiveness of Autoclaves in Tattoo and Body Piercing Establishments ..." quoted a study by Hogg and Morrison that looked at the practice of re-sterilisation of dental tools. The study concluded that re-sterilization of instruments, thought cost-effective, showed evidence that the sterilization process may not be entirely effective. Further adding that, “The sterilization process is complex and that if strict adherence to an effective protocol is not followed, contamination of instruments may result.”
In fact, to work in the field of sterile services, or health approved sterilisation of medical instruments, a technician must undergo a lengthy apprenticeship, or attain a level 3 certificate in sterilising medical instruments, which takes 160 hours of study. The procedure for correct autoclaving is complex and should be performed bu thoroughly trained individuals to avoid the many complications and failures that can arise without adhering to the strictest protocols.
At Armoury, we have chosen to educate ourselves in blood borne pathogens and cross contamination control, yet we still prefer not to also act as autoclaving technicians, but to leave that to the professionals.
You will be provided with written aftercare information to ensure your tattoo or piercing is safe during the healing period, and we will discuss the process with you too. There are a number of tattoo and piercing aftercare products in the market, generally designed to raise the income of the studio. We prefer to recommend salt water made at home for piercing cleaning, and Bepanthen cream (tried and true for 30 years and available from chemists and supermarkets) for tattoos.
More information on aftercare can be found here.
We pride ourselves on the standard with which we uphold our EH approved, local council issued tattoo & piercing license.
